No decision on loan to Pakistan's Kashmir ministry: China

China said on Friday that no decision had been taken on providing a loan to Pakistan's ministry of Kashmir affairs. "It is only a letter of intent," Sun Guoxiang, deputy director general of the Asian affairs department of the Chinese foreign ministry, told reporters.

The official Xinhua news agency reported that relevant government departments and enterprises from both countries signed seven cooperative documents on Thursday, the first day of President Pervez Musharraf's state visit. The agency did not, however, name the documents.

Sun said the documents signed were in the form of memoranda of understanding and letters of intent. "One of them is related to the question you just raised," he told the Press Trust of India, but did not give details.

Sun said that during the talks between President Jiang Zemin and General Musharraf, military cooperation between the two sides was not discussed. But he went on to describe the close Sino-Pakistani military ties as normal.

"China and Pakistan enjoy good relations. Military cooperation and trade is one aspect of bilateral relations. I want to emphasise that this is part of the normal relations between the two countries," he said.
