Injured will get best medical facilities: C P Thakur

Union Health Minister C P Thakur on Thursday confirmed that six victims were brought in dead and 22 others were injured in the attack on Parliament House. Speaking to reporters at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital after visiting the injured admitted there, he said the condition of four was serious and they were being operated on.

One of them is Vikram, a cameraman from ANI, he said.

Thakur admitted that there were some intelligence reports about likely terrorist strikes on Parliament.

"But I will not call this an intelligence failure as the terrorists were overpowered and killed. No one can stop suicide squads," he said.

Thakur said that all the parliamentarians were grateful to the security personnel for having protected Parliament and bravely fought the terrorists.

Being the closest to Parliament, the RML Hospital was the centre of hectic activity as the injured were being brought in.

Senior doctors began supervising operations soon after the first victim was wheeled in around mid-day.

While doctors were administering first aid, four employees prepared bandages and cotton.

However, mediapersons were not allowed in as it would affect the emergency operations.

"All the injured will be given excellent treatment and will be well looked after. We have put the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on top alert in case the patients need to be rushed there. All hospitals in Delhi are standing by for any emergency," he said.

The bodies of the terrorists are lying in the parliament premises, he said.

Thakur said that he was addressing a meeting of health officials when the attack took place. He immediately rushed to his office to oversee emergency measures.

The RML Hospital had set up a disaster-control room and the immediate focus would be on attending to the injured and then shifting them wherever required, he said.

Virendra (43) - bullet injury.
Kamal Singh (43) - bullet injury on the right shoulder.
Sanju (19) - bullet injury in the left side of the abdomen.
Purshottam Pandey - bullet injury in the thigh.
Matwan Singh (40) - bullet injury in the stomach.
Rajat Bist - bullet injury in the left hand and wrist.
Samar Singh (45) - bullet injury in the right thigh.
Jeet Ram (51) - bullet injuries on the thighs.
Purshottam Singh (47) - bullet injury in the right thigh and buttock.
Rakesh (30) - bullet injury on the back.
Sukhwinder Singh (25) - bullet injury in the left side.
Hansraj (41) - bullet injury on the left thigh.
V P Thapa (37) - severe bullet injury on left knee.
