Maoist rebels on Monday night made an unsuccessful attempt to blow up an airport tower in Nepal but missed their target, a home ministry spokesman said on Tuesday.

An yet unknown number of militants threw two bombs at the air traffic control tower at Tumlingtar airport, 390 km northeast of Kathmandu, he said.

However, the bombs missed their targets, he said adding that the tower was safe.
