PoK outfit asks UN to book Musharraf as war criminal

An organisation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir has appealed to the United Nations to book Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf as a war criminal for being involved in a genocide campaign against the people of Gilgit and Balawaristan.

In a letter to the UN, International Court of Justice and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the Balawaristan National Front said Musharraf and other Pakistani generals should be booked as war criminals for the genocide carried out by them in PoK.

Abdul Hamid Khan, the chairman of the BNF, said the Pakistani government and its military were settling Afghans and terrorists besides increasing its "notorious intelligence network in Balawaristan to turn the indigenous people into a minority".

He claimed that President Musharraf and former military ruler General Zia-ul-Haq had played a heinous role in 1988 and 1999 by launching a "genocide campaign" against the indigenous people.

"In 1988, hundreds of Shias and Sunnis were killed, which led to a forceful displacement of thousands of indigenous people. In 1999, our youth were sent to fight the Kargil war," the letter said.
