DMK workers continue rampage in TN

Ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam workers continued to go on the rampage, torching buses etc, to protest against their high command's directive to party men not to have any link with M K Azhagiri, son of chief minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi.

Two buses, a state-owned city bus and another belonging to a private educational institution, were set afire, taking the total number of buses burnt to seven in the last three days. Few buses were also damaged in sporadic incidents of stone-throwing.

Six DMK men were taken into custody in connection with the burning of a city bus at Puttuthope late on Wednesday night, the police said.

In all, 200 people have been taken into preventive custody.

State additional director general of police Kumarasamy, who arrived in Madurai on Wednesday, held discussions with top police officials on containing the violence let loose by DMK men.

Meanwhile, despite the party high command's directive, large number of party workers and senior leaders, including the city deputy mayor Misa Pandiyan, Aavin chairman Mannan, MDCC Bank chairman A R Chandran thronged the residence of Azhagiri to express their solidarity.
