IAS officer accused of tonsuring daughter's loverOur correspondent in Madurai The Manamadurai police in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu is inquiring into a case wherein an Indian Administrative Services officer has been accused of holding a youth in illegal custody after tonsuring him and removing his moustache and eyebrows. The boy's crime: a love affair with the officer's daughter. The directive to inquire into the case has come from the Madras high court after the victim's brother filed a petition. In his habeas corpus petition, Danushkodi, the victim's brother, alleged that two employees of the Chennai Port Trust, where the IAS officer, M Kalaivanan, served a term as a chairman, picked up Murugan from his house at knife-point. Nothing was heard about the boy for a long time after that. The petition said Murugan fell in love with the IAS officer's daughter in Kuruthan village in Manamaduri taluka. Danushkodi says Murugan was last seen in a house in Thallakulam village, near Manamadurai. "I traced him to that place. They had tonsured him and shaved his eyebrows. He had obviously been beaten up. Now I understand that he has been shifted to a local nursing home." This is the second criminal case involving a senior IAS officer in Tamil Nadu in the past one year. Last year, a school teacher from near Virudunagar had alleged she was raped by an IAS officer, whom she had approached for a transfer.
