Mamata makes a courtesy call on PM

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said she would discuss the roll-back in petroleum prices with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee after he returns to New Delhi.

Mamata, who called on the prime minister this evening at Breach Candy Hospital where he is recuperating after a knee surgery, told mediapersons that her visit was a courtesy call.

Mamata said she was happy to see him (the prime minister) recovering fast and appreciated his concern for flood-hit people of West Bengal.

The minister, who spent about 15 to 20 minutes with Vajpayee, said: "Even when he is recuperating, he discussed and showed a lot of concern for the people of West Bengal and I felt good."

Earlier, Union Minister for Telecommunications Ramvilas Paswan met Vajpayee and told mediapersons that the prime minister expressed great concern over the recent violence in Siwan district of Bihar.

Paswan, who was in Bombay to address a Dalits' rally, said the prime minister was cheerful and happy.

Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi also met Vajpayee on Thursday.
