Tribhuvan airport shut down,
IA cancels flights: PTI

Indian Airlines could not fly to Kathmandu Tuesday as the runway at the Tribhuvan airport remained blocked by a China South West Airlines Boeing 757 aircraft with deflated tyres.

The Chinese aircraft was hit by a bird just before its take off.

"Over 1000 passengers of IA flights to and from Kathmandu have been put to great inconvenience due to non-operation of the scheduled flights from Delhi, Calcutta and Varanasi," IA spokesman said.

He said flight operations at Kathmandu airport were suspended at 1100 hours Tuesday.

The spokesman said IA has taken all possible steps to look after the stranded passengers, including providing hotel accommodation and reimbursement of taxi charges.
