Jogi is a duplicate tribal: Oram

M I Khan in Bhubaneshwar

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party tribal leader and Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Juel Oram has challenged Ajit Jogi, chief minister of the newly born Chhattisgarh state, to prove that he is a 'tribal' and then start his term.

"If he fails to prove that, he should resign on the first day," Oram asserted.

"I challenge him to prove that he is a real tribal by birth. He is a duplicate," Oram said before leaving for New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon.

Oram criticised the Congress party high command for imposing a non-tribal as chief minister on a tribal-dominated state. ''It has betrayed the very purpose of the creation of Chhattisgarh to save the interest of tribals,'' he adds.

Oram said that there should be a tribal chief minister for Chhattisgarh, instead of a so-called tribal like Jogi.

Oram told rediff.com at the state guest house, ''How can he work for the benefit of tribals if he is not a tribal himself? Jogi is a scheduled caste. There are 46 tribal groups in Madhya Pradesh."

The minister said that a case was on in the Bhopal High court over whether Jogi was a tribal or not. "Jogi's caste certificates also do not show that he is a tribal," he pointed out.
