Dara Singh arrestedBibhuti Mishra in Bhubaneswar Dara Singh, one of India's most wanted men, has been arrested. Early on Tuesday morning, he walked into a trap laid by the Orissa police. Singh, the prime accused in the murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines, has been at large since January 22, 1999. He was allegedly involved in two other murders -- that of a Muslim trader at Padiabeda and of a Catholic priest in Jamubani. A Central Bureau Team arrived in Baripada today and interrogated Dara Singh for 20 minutes. Television reports said Dara has confessed to having killed missionary Graham Staines and some other people. Sources in the state police said the CBI team has handed over the case to the state Crime Branch. About three weeks ago, Superintendent of Police, Mayurbhanj, Y B Khurania, realising that Singh was spotted in the Thakurmunda forest in the Mayurbhanj-Keonjhar districts, arranged for a police decoy to trap the fugitive. The decoy posed as an arms dealer and his brief was to convince Singh into buying some arms from him. He succeeded, and early this morning, while the transaction was being conducted, the police party, including Khurania, pounced on the alleged killer. The police party walked 11 kilometres on foot to reach Guhari, 170 km from Baripada, the district headquarters of Mayurbhanj, to arrest Singh. He was kept in police custody at Thankurmunda and will be shifted to Baripada later today.
