Film financier Bharat Shah questioned

Diamond merchant and film financier Bharat Shah was Friday questioned by Crime Branch sleuths in connection with an alleged underworld-film industry nexus.

Police sources said that he came to the Crime Branch office in the morning and was questioned by top officers for around an hour and 45 minutes.

He was questioned following the arrest of film producer Nazeem Rizvi, producer of Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, based on information that underworld money was involved in the production of his film.

Police sources said that the investigating team questioned Shah about the source of funding of the film. Shah refused to comment when he left the office at the police commissionerate at Crawford market, south Bombay.

Rizvi was remanded to police custody till December 27 on Thursday by the additional sessions judge, who presides over the special court set up under the Maharashtra Control for Organised Crime Act, 1999.

It was alleged that Rizvi has links with fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel and the duo had allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy to bump off film personalities.
