Haryana DGP asked to proceed on leave

Haryana Director General of Police S P S Rathore, charged with outraging the modesty of a tennis trainee, has been asked to proceed on leave, official sources in Chandigarh said on Tuesday.

Rathore was asked to proceed on leave shortly after an Ambala court condoned the delay by the Central bureau of Investigation in filing of the chargesheet against him, the sources said.

Special CBI Magistrate A K Tyagi, condoning the delay, summoned the DGP on January 11 next.

Chief Secretary Vishnu Bhagwan was not available for comment, with his staff saying he was busy attending a meeting.

Ruchika Girhotra, a 14-year-old tennis trainee, was allegedly molested by Rathore in the office of the Haryana Lawn Tennis Association at Panchakula on August 12, 1990.

Ruchika allegedly committed suicide on December 29, 1993 three years after the incident.
