Karnataka has suspended all operations against sandalwood smuggler Veerappan.

Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna said on Tuesday, "There has been no combing operation against him. And reports about combing operations being conducted are incorrect."

The chief minister said Karnataka has appointed a senior Indian Police Service officer in Madras to liaise with the Tamil Nadu government.

"My government has promised all help to R Gopal, editor of Nakkeeran, in his mediation efforts with Veerappan."

Krishna said he was regularly monitoring the situation in tandem with Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge.
