Anger over Hardwar's exclusion from Uttarakhand

E-Mail this report to a friend

The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal will observe April 8 and 10 as protest days to oppose the exclusion of Hardwar from the proposed hill state of Uttarakhand.

UKD leader A S Sharma said in Dehra Dun today that Hardwar has been an integral part of the Uttarakhand region since the pre-independence days.

''Mythologically, culturally, historically and geographically, Hardwar is a part of this region,'' he said.

Some Youth Congress activists have also urged the party high command to build up pressure on the Centre to include Hardwar in Uttarakhand.

Speaking in Hardwar yesterday, Ashok Singhal, national president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, said the differences of opinion regarding inclusion of Hardwar in the proposed state should be resovled with consensus.
