Top BSF official dies in Assam encounterAn assistant commandant of the Border Security Force was gunned down in an encounter with suspected United Liberation Front of Asom militants at Pyaragaon village in Assam's Barpeta district yesterday, official sources said in Guwahati today. Accompanied by an apprehended ULFA activist, a joint BSF- police party had raided a hideout of the banned organisation in the village. Assistant Commandant S R Yadav was killed on the spot in the encounter. Casualties on the other side were not immediately known. Senior civil and police officials with additional forces rushed to the spot and combed the area, the sources added. Meanwhile, another report said unidentified gunmen shot dead three ULFA activists, including one hardcore militant, in separate incidents in Dhubri district yesterday. UNI RELATED STORY |
