New dalit outfit threatens to boycott DMKNewly formed dalit political party 'Puratchi Bharatam' today threatened to prevent the entry of ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections into any dalit colony or village for electioneering if the 13 party activists detained by the Tamil Nadu government were not released immediately. Addressing the media in Madras, party president M Murthy said the activists were arrested by the Madras police on April 10 when a hoarding was erected. They were later booked under the Goondas Act. This was a deliberate act to stunt the growth of the party, he alleged. Hundreds of party activists observed a token fast outside the state guest house in Madras demanding the release of their colleagues even as Murthy was addressing the media. UNI
