Hindu Munnani flays TN CM over proposed Muslim quotaThe Hindu Munnani has criticised Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's assurance that separate reservations would be provided for Muslims. Taking exception to Karunanidhi's assurance to this effect at the recent Indian Union Muslim League conference in Madras, Munnani state organising secretary Ramagopalan, in a statement, said, ''The talk of providing communal reservation was politically motivated with an eye on the Muslim vote bank.'' He questioned the permission given to an IUML procession considering the government did not permit the Vinayaka Chathurthi processions. He also condemned Karunanidhi's failure to make any mention of the threat posed by Muslim fundamentalists, at the conference. Ramagopalan said Karunanidhi's assurance to include Muslims in the list of backward classes amounted to betraying other backward classes as this would deprive them of their benefits. He wanted the Centre and various political parties to take note of Karunanidhi's utterances as any talk of providing protection to the minorities should not serve as an encouragement to terrorism and separatism.
