SC to hear Jaya case on Thursday

The Supreme Court has fixed March 11 for the final hearing of a writ petition challenging a notification issued by the Centre transferring 46 corruption cases against AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha and others from special courts to sessions courts.

The hearing was fixed by a division bench comprising Justices G T Nanavati and S P Kurtukar when the bench was informed that both the Centre and Jayalalitha had filed their counter-affidavits to the petition of the advocate general of Tamil Nadu.

The court said that in case the Centre's notification of of February 5 was upheld, the special leave petition filed by Jayalalitha and others challenging the judgement of the Madras high court upholding the validity of the appointment of three special courts, would become invalid.

Therefore, the court indicated that it would first proceed with the hearing on the validity of the Centre's notification.
