Coal import deal: Court summons JayaThe special court trying cases of corruption during the previous AIADMK regime in Tamil Nadu, today directed former chief minister, J Jayalalitha, and ten others, including two former ministers and some IAS officers to appear before the court on June 16 in connection with the Rs 6.5 crore coal import deal case. Special Judge-II V Radhakrishnan gave the direction when the case was taken up for hearing today. Though the judge did not give any reason for summoning the accused, it is learnt that he might frame charges against the accused if he was able to pass orders on the discharge petitions filed by them on that day itself. The judge had already reserved orders on the discharge petitions filed by all but one accused- A Nagarajan, former member, distribution of coal. Former ministers V R Nedunchezhiyan and S Kannappan, former chief secretaries T V Venkataraman and N Haribaskar and IAS officers C Ramachandran and N Narayanan were some of the other accused in the case. The state crime branch-CID police, which probed the case based on a complaint filed by Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy when he was a bitter critic of Jayalalitha, had filed the chargesheet in the case on April 2, last year.
