Jaya to be grilled on her anti-DMK views in bomb case

The Special Investigation Team of the Tamil Nadu Crime Branch probing the seizure of time-bombs near police establishments in Madras, Coimbatore and Tiruchirapalli will question All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary J Jayalalitha this evening to verify her charge that the bombs were planted by the state government itself.

Additional Director General of Police (CB-CID) V K Rajagopalan said the SIT would seek the cooperation of Jayalalitha as part of the investigation.

Besides Jayalalitha, the SIT would also question Tamil Maanila Congress general secretary Peter Alphonse, Rashtriya Janata Dal state unit president Jagaveerapandian and Puthiya Tamizhagam chief K Krishnasamy, all of whom claimed that the planting of explosives was the handiwork of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government to tarnish the image of the minorities in the state.

Meanwhile, Jayalalitha, confirming the receipt of summons from the CB-CID for questioning, alleged that it was an act of vindictiveness by the state government.

In a statement, she said her remarks on the planting of bombs were only based on the views of leaders of minority organisations and political parties and she could not be singled out for questioning.

Claiming that it was an attempt by the state government to stifle her voice in support of the minorities, Jayalalitha said she would not be cowed down by such vindictive actions.
