Chautala says Bansi Lal should step down

Leader of the opposition in the Haryana assembly and working president of Indian National Lok Dal Om Prakash Chautala today claimed that he had the support of more than 50 Members of the Legislative Assembly in the 89-member House and said the Bansi Lal government had lost its majority in the assembly.

More than 12 Haryana Vikas Party MLAs, including seven ministers and several independents, have already left the Bansi Lal government, Chautala told newspersons before leaving for Chandigarh.

Chautala said in the present circumstances, the chief minister should resign to enable Governor Mahabir Prasad to install an alternate government in the state.

Criticising the Congress for not taking a clear stand even at this crucial stage, Chautala said that he fears that it may abstain in tomorrow's crucial voting on the confidence motion.

He said that senior party leaders were helping the Bansi Lal government and also misled Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Chautala said that the decision of forming an alternate government would be taken only after the Bansi Lal government exits. The decision of who will be the chief of the new group would be decided after consulting all supporters, he added.

He claimed that INLD can provide a good administration in the state and would fulfil its constitutional obligation, if the governor gives a chance to his party.
