ASSEMBLY POLL '98
|
Govt's allegations are 'a tissue of lie', says BhagwatAdmiral Vishnu Bhagwat who was recently sacked as naval chief today described the allegations of the government as "a tissue of lie" and said that he will not allow these lies and slander to pass. Bhagwat issued a statement at the Bombay domestic terminal on his arrival from New Delhi for the Bombay media that had assembled in full strength. In his statement he said, ''When I was relieved of my charge, I decided not to challenge the government, in spite of the grave injustice done to the navy. However, I will not allow my honour to be besmirched in this manner. I have given my whole life to the navy and the nation and I am proud of the legacy I am leaving behind as a loyal and patriotic soldier of the republic. I have done my duty. ''I have thought of what Lokmanya Tilak said when he faced trial for sedition in colonial India. There is a higher power that rules the destiny of men and nations and it may be the will of providence that the cause which I represent may prosper more by my sufferings than by remaining free.'' UNI
