New missile to be test-fired next weekIndia's sophisticated new surface-to-surface medium range missile will soon be test-fired from the Interim Test Range about 15 km from Balasore in Orissa. Officials said the missile, with a range of over 250 km, would be test-fired either on January 23 or January 24. A high-level meeting to discuss details was held in Balasore on Thursday under the chairmanship of the district collector. The missile is yet to be named by the Defence Research Development Organisation. Sources said about 726 people belonging to 92 families in four villages situated close to the ITR, under the risk zone, would be temporarily evacuated. These villages are situated within one km radius of the launching pad. The villagers would be compensated as per prevalent rules. UNI
