Six helpers of Veerappan arrested

Six persons who have been supplying ration to the dreaded sandalwood smuggler Veerappan have been arrested by the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force personnel while combing the Pothamalai hills in the Bargur forests.

The STF personnel seized five country-made guns, 0.5 kg of gunpowder and two ivory tusks from the arrested, sources said.

Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Das interrogated them to find out whether they were involved in any manner in the ransacking of the Vellithiruppur police station recently and decamping with the arms after locking up the police personnel.
