Famine causes farmers to migrate from Chhattisgarh: BJPA 'famine-like' situation in Madhya Pradesh's Chhattisgarh region is forcing agricultural labourers to migrate in search of jobs, state Bharatiya Janata Party President Nand Kumar Sai has said. Talking to reporters in Bhopal after the two-day BJP state executive meeting, he said more than 50,000 people from the region had already migrated to other places as relief works were not being carried out. He said the State should take immediate steps to start relief works in the region. It should also suspend the recovery of loans. Stressing the need for increasing the irrigation potential, in a resolution passed at the meeting, the party pointed out that several projects remained incomplete due to shortage of funds. Referring to the party's defeat in the recent assembly election, Sai said the meeting had expressed serious concerns over the irregularities and manipulations in the voter's list. He claimed the names of several voters had been deleted. He was exploring the legal aspects to take the issue to court. Several BJP candidates had lost the election by a slender margin, Sai said, and so 40 candidates were contemplating filing election petitions. The political resolution said the farmers were facing problems due to irregular power supply, and the incidents of atrocities against the women and weaker sections were on the rise. It said the government was taking no action against the menace of single digit lotteries even after those affected by it had committed suicide. The resolution also alleged that the Congress government was resorting to vindictive action against BJP workers. UNI
