RJD demands ban on RSS, VHP, Bajrang DalThe Rashtriya Janata Dal today demanded that the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh be outlawed forthwith for their stepped up "militant activities" against the minorities. RJD general secretary and former Union minister of state for home Mohammed Taslimuddin, MP, urged the Centre to impose a blanket ban on the "fundamentalist organisations". He accused the Centre of inaction, which had emboldened these organisations to pursue their "nefarious designs to torture and harass the minority communities". This was evident from the series of incidents in Gujarat such as the attacks on Christians in the Dangs and Surat, he said. Taslimuddin said such incidents besmirch the country's reputation and damage its secular fabric. He accused some senior politicians of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of covertly backing the attacks. "Such double standards have made the situation worse", he said. He hoped Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who may visit Gujarat this week, will initiate the "severest action" against these organisations at the earliest. UNI |
