37 Adivasis re-converted to Hinduism in Nashik

E-Mail this report to a friend

In a significant development, a Hindu organisation has re-converted 37 Adivasis who converted to Christianity, back to Hinduism, at a one-day 'Vishwa Hindu Sammelan' held at Peth, the tribal dominant tehsil town in Nashik district.

The one-day sammelan, organised by a recently formed Hindu organisation, Dharmaraksha Samiti, was attended by over 9000 delegates from all over Maharashtra and from neighbouring states.

The re-conversion was a part of reaction to the alleged conversion of tribals by Christian missionaries in the area. A church was too attacked at Kayare, Sadarpara in Peth taluk allegedly by the locals some time ago. Christian organisations also had organised protest demonstrations against the attack on a church last month.

Meanwhile, the sammelan, through six resolutions, demanded that the panchayat should not accord permissions to illegal church constructions in the area, stop all Christian centres which are allegedly being used for conversion of Hindu-tribals, withdraw police bandobast deployed in Peth taluk following the damage of church in the area and urged the government to stop the conversion of local Hindu Adivasis.

The sammelan was held in the presence of the Shankaracharya of Karveer Peeth, Swamy Vidhyashankar Bharati.

Local Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Vijay Sanam, Nishigandha Mogal and Bbaba Sanap also participated in the meet.
