More witnesses to be summoned in Jaya graft casesA special court trying corruption cases against former chief minister J Jayalalitha and some of her erstwhile cabinet colleagues, today ordered that summons be issued to six witnesses in connection with the disproportionate assets of former minister and All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam member of Parliament V Sathiyamurthy. When the case came up for hearing before special court-II judge V Radhakrishnan, he posted the case to February 2. Sathiyamurthy and six other accused, including his wife and other family members, were facing trial in the case for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his income, to the tune of Rs 8.38 million. Meanwhile, in special court-I, four witnesses including a sub-registrar and a bank manager were examined in the case of former AIADMK legislator G Malliga, who had earnings disproportionate to his income, to the tune of Rs 23.6 million. Judge S Sambandam posted the case to January 18 for further hearing. |
