Judge in Jaya case seeks transfer

Special Judge-three P Anbazhagan, trying corruption cases during the previous All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham regime in Tamil Nadu, including the Tansi land deal case in which former chief minister J Jayalalitha is the prime accused, wants to be relieved of hearing all 14 corruption cases pending before him. He has sought a transfer to any vacant additional sessions court in the city.

The judge is reported to have written a letter to Madras high court acting Chief Justice N K Jain in this regard, according to reliable sources.

Anbazhagan is said to be agitated by the directive of Justice S S Subramani of the high court yesterday, seeking his comment on allegations of bias against one of the six accused in the Tansi land deal case, former minister Mohammed Asif.

Justice Subramani earlier stayed the framing of charges against the accused till March 1 on a plea from Asif.

Earlier in the day, Anbazhagan adjourned to March 4 further proceedings in the Tansi land deal case.

According to legal circles, in the event of the judge being relieved from his post, the pending cases will be heard from the present status by a new judge.
