Coal import case against Jayalalitha adjourned to Mar 25Special Judge V Radhakrishnan, who is trying cases of corruption involving the earlier All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime in Tamil Nadu, today adjourned to March 25 the hearing in the coal import deal case in which former chief minister J Jayalalitha and 10 others have been indicted. The judge gave the direction following a submission by the state Crime Branch that the Australian authorities are yet to send certain details about the deal. It may be recalled that a Crime Branch team had visited Australia and some south-east Asian countries to probe the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board's import of two million tonnes of coal in 1993. The judge also adjourned to March 12 trial proceedings in the case relating to the amassment of wealth by AIADMK MP and former minister V Sathyamurthy after four witnesses were examined today. UNI
