CRPF to build intelligence network in TripuraAsserting its resolve to wipe out militancy from the state, the Central Reserve Police Force has decided to set up special operation groups in each battalion in the north eastern state of Tripura, besides building up its own intelligence network. The state government has also stepped in by constituting village defence parties to tackle rising militancy in the state. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said last evening that the government was examining the proposal to provide arms to the proposed village defence parties. Besides, coordination between various para-military forces and the state forces would be strengthened for greater effect, he added. He was speaking to newspersons after addressing the concluding session of a meeting of senior officers of the state civil administration, the police and the CRPF. Chief Secretary V Thulasidas, Director General of Police K Salim Ali, IG and DIG of CRPF, commandants of all CRPF battalions deployed in Tripura, district magistrates and superintendents of police of all the four districts attended the meet. The chief minister said the Union government had responded positively to his demand of providing two helicopters for ferrying security personnel and food stocks to the interior areas. UNI
