NLFT militants kill six villagersSix villagers were shot dead and two injured in one of the worst militant attacks by the National Liberation Front of Tripura guerillas at Manu in the trouble-torn Dhalai district today. Police said the ultras swooped down on the predominantly non-tribal village in the early hours and fired indiscriminately killing two people on the spot. Before leaving, the militants abducted four villagers whom they later killed in a nearby jungle. Police have recovered all the six bodies. Two villagers, who sustained bullet injuries, have been shifted to a hospital. Tension ran high in the area after the incident. Additional security forces led by DIG (northern range) Bala Subramaniam and Superintendent of Police (Dhalai district) T B Roy have rushed to the spot and launched an intensive combing operation. Today's attack was the worst by the extremists in recent times. On April 10 the ultras killed five people at Tulamura in south Tripura. Seven people were injured in the attack. On July 10, six people, five Tripura State Rifles jawans and their driver, were killed by the All Tripura Tiger Force who set off a landmine explosion at Takumbarin in south Tripura. Meanwhile, security forces continued combing operations to rescue four RSS leaders in Dhalai district and the father of former state minister, Ranjit Debnath in Amarpur. NLFT guerillas had kidnapped the RSS leaders, including the organisation's eastern zonal secretary, Shyamal Kanti Sengupta, from an ashram-cum-school last Friday. The ultras abducted Debnath's father from his house at Amarpur in south Tripura on Monday. The victim is a senior CPI-M leader. UNI
