Defence officials brief Cabinet panelThe Cabinet Committee on Security today held detailed discussions on the measures required to be taken to thwart any Pakistani misadventure in retaliation to yesterday's shooting down of a Pakistani aircraft. The CCS, chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, was briefed by top defence officials who stated that the maritime reconnaissance aircraft had violated the Indian airspace and ignored repeated warnings. Defence Minister George Fernandes, Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Finance Minister Yaswant Sinha, who attended the 45-minute-long meeting, were shown the wreckage of the aircraft. The wreckage was brought to New Delhi last night along with the documents of pilots and other crew members. Group Captain D N Ganesh, who had shown the wreckage to the prime minister and his ministerial colleagues, said an Indian missile had hit the Pakistani aircraft. UNI
