UN deplores 'loss of life'United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has deplored the 'loss of life' in the downing of a Pakistani plane by India. UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said Annan urged the two sides to seek peaceful means to resolve their outstanding issues. ''The secretary-general regrets the loss of life following the downing of a Pakistani aircraft by the Indian Air Force,'' Eckhard said. ''He is increasingly concerned at the repeated incidents between India and Pakistan and urges that the differences be resolved by peaceful means,'' the spokesman said. UNI
