Rains wash away bridge in Kullu,
hundreds of pilgrims stranded

Efforts were on to evacuate pilgrims stranded in Shrikhand area of Kullu district after a bridge over Kharpan gorge was washed away following heavy rains.

Himachal Pradesh home secretary, Ajay Prasad, said in Shimla today that police and ITBP personnel have already been rushed to the area along with rations and medicines.

Construction of a temporary bridge over the gorge to enable the pilgrims to cross it was being considered. It was expected that the pilgrims would be brought to a safer place by this evening.

Prasad said the pilgrims did not face any food shortage nor was there any report of any injuries.

Meanwhile, bodies of two of the eight people who were washed away in flashfloods caused by a cloudburst at Damar village in Kullu district yesterday, were recovered while search for the remaining bodies was on
