TRC wants more than one seat in TNUnion Petroleum Minister Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy, whose Tamizhaga Rajiv Congress and Pattali Makkal Katchi have together been allotted nine Lok Sabha seats in the DMK-led front in Tamil Nadu, today announced his party's intention to contest more than one seat. In a statement issued from Delhi, Ramamurthy said the TRC would contest the polls only if it was given more than one seat. Otherwise we will stay away from the polls and strive for the victory of NDA candidates, he added. Our silence over the seat-sharing issue is being misconstrued as a weakness. We have never told the leaders of our allied parties that we will contest only one seat, he asserted. He said the TRC would take a final decision on the issue at the party's high-level meeting to be held here on August 9. Ramamurthy was the lone TRC candidate in the last election. He had won from Salem. Of the nine seats allotted to the PMK-TRC combine, the PMK had already announced the names of the candidates for Dharmapuri, Chengalpattu and Chidambaram (sc) seats. UNI
