Karunanidhi rules out support to Vajpayee governmentTamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M Karunanidhi today indicated that the party would not join hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party to help the latter to continue in power at the Centre. The DMK has always wanted to maintain cordial relations with the BJP-led coalition government at the Centre for administrative reasons, but relations at the political level were different, he said. He was replying to a question if there would be any change in the party's attitude towards the BJP after the DMK's golden jubilee conference at Tirunelveli on September 17 and 18. On AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha's recent statement that her party would continue to support the BJP, he said she had been blowing hot and cold on the issue and he would not like to react as this might not be her final stand. Asked about the reinstatement of Enforcement Director M K Bezbaruah, he said there had been conflicting reports over his recent transfer, with Jayalalitha alleging that those close to the prime minister had received bribes to effect the transfer and demanding a CBI probe into the matter. One has to go into the origin of the issue, he added. UNI
