Jaya accuses media of negative projection

All India Anna DMK general secretary J Jayalalitha today lambasted the media for spreading what she termed as "canards" against her and asserted that she would not worry about it as the people were with her.

In a lengthy appeal to the AIADMK cadres, she said certain newspapers and journals which had been spreading "canards" against her ever since she entered the politics, were "running amok" against her now. The people had given her the vigour to confront all hostile designs, she added.

In an apparent reference to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who normally enjoys a friendly press, she said some people were dependent on newspapers and satellite television channels owned by them for their survival in power.

"But we are dependent only on the people. When that great force is with us, we need not worry about the evil-minded who spread canards," she added.

Jayalalitha said the public meeting, organised by the AIADMK at Tiruchirapalli on September 15 to commemorate the late chief minister C N Annadurai's birth anniversary would turn out to be a success.

Prime Minister A B Vajpayee is scheduled to attend a rally, organised by the Marumalarchi DMK, an ally of the AIADMK, in the city on the same day.

The media had interpreted the AIADMK organising a parallel rally as a clever attempt by Jayalalitha to stay away from the MDMK function.
