E-Mail this report to a friend

The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has proposed to set up a nuclear safety research institute at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, near the Tamil Nadu capital, Madras.

The Centre has sanctioned Rs 99 million for this. The institute will come up by the year-end, AERB Chairman Dr P Rama Rao said.

He said the institute would train scientists and personnel involved in nuclear programmes on the safety aspects of nuclear establishments in the country.

Dr Rama Rao said the AERB had also decided to fund a Master's in Technology course on thermal energy in the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. From the 110 applications received, five have been selected. They will be absorbed by the AERB, he added.
