Jaya's lawyers will decide on next move after getting copy of judgment

Lawyers representing former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha, whose petition challenging the constitutional validity of the appointment of special judges to try corruption cases against her and others was dismissed by the Madras high court yesterday, would await receipt of a copy of the judgment before deciding whether or not to appeal before the Supreme Court.

Lawyer Jinasenan, representing Jayalalitha, said he expected to get copies of the judgment, running to 678 pages, on Wednesday. A decision would be taken in consultation with his client, after going through the judgment, he said.

Chief Justice M S Liberhan and Justice E Padmanabhan delivered two separate judgments in the case, arriving at the same decision.

While the chief justice dealt with the legal aspects of the petition, Justice Padmanabhan went through its technical and factual aspects.

The judges delivered only the operative portion of the judgments yesterday.
