TMC deliberates on working closely with Congress

The newly-constituted political affairs committee of the Tamil Maanila Congress today began its crucial two-day sitting to discuss the modalities of working together with the Congress at the national level.

This was in a follow-up to TMC president G K Moopanar's announcement, while ruling out the merger of his party with the Congress, that it would work along with that party.

The meeting, being held at the TMC headquarters, Sathyamurthy Bhavan in Madras, was also expected to take a formal decision on nominating Moopanar for the forthcoming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha, party sources said.

The meeting, chaired by Moopanar and attended by TMC office-bearers including former Union ministers P Chidambaram, S R Balasubramaniam, Jayanthi Natarajan and M Arunachalam and MP Peter Alphonse, would formalise filling up the district-level office-bearers of the party. Former Union minister Dhanushkodi Adityan was not among those present at the meeting.
