Law minister accuses Karunanidhi of maligning central ministers inside state assembly

Union Law Minister M Thambidurai on Tuesday said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi "was consistently utilising the state assembly to malign central ministers.''

''The chief minister alleged in the state assembly on Monday that I levelled a charge against him that he (Karunanidhi) had a share in the impropriety of allowing inter-company investment to the extent of Rs 20 billion by the Reliance group, but I never said he had a share in it. But I did make a statement demanding an enquiry into the bungling in the inter-company investment," he said.

The chief minister had unnecessarily dragged his name into the alleged frauds in engineering colleges while ''I have no connection with any engineering college in the state.''

It is not befitting the stature of Karunanidhi to utilise the proceedings of the state assembly to make unsubstantiated and unfounded allegations against a central Cabinet minister, the Union law minister said.

"Instead of apologising for the deliberate denial of accommodation to me as a central minister in the Salem circuit house, Karunanidhi stated in the assembly that although two rooms were booked at both places I chose to go to a hotel,'' Thambidurai added.
