Mariam Rasheeda can go home, finally!Maldivian national Mariam Rasheeda, accused in the infamous Indian Space Research Organisation espionage case, can go home now. Finally. On Tuesday, a local court in Kerala granted her permanent exemption from personal appearance in three defamation suits, the last cases against her on Indian soil. Thiruvananthapuram Judicial First Class Magistrates K J Rajan and Arumughan asked Rasheeda to submit an application for leaving the country once she got her travel documents from the Maldives. The cases -- two of them filed by Circle Inspector S Vijayan and another by Sub Inspector Thampi S Durgadatt alleging that the interviews given by Rasheeda to some publications were defamatory -- were adjourned till May 27 and June 5. Rasheeda had executed three personal bonds of Rs 10,000 each in connection with the cases on May 2. Though she was granted bail by the first class judicial court in Thiruvananthapuram six months ago, she did not execute the bonds then. Rasheeda had been lodged in the Viyyur central jail near Thrissur for about three-and-a-half years. Her release came after the recent Supreme Court order, which passed severe strictures against the state government and exonerated all the six accused in the case. UNI
