Nothing wrong with law and order, says Karunanidhi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has asserted that there was nothing wrong with the law and order situation in the state as alleged by All India Anna DMK general secretary and former chief minister J Jayalalitha and her allies.

Addressing a May Day public meeting organised by the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's labour wing, the Labour Progressive Federation, in Madras last night, he said there was no justification at all in the demand of Jayalalitha and her allies for the dismissal of his government. The demand was politically motivated, he added.

Referring to the corruption cases against Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi said she was trying to find loopholes in the legal process and gain time. However, she would not be able to escape from the clutches of the law, he said.

Refuting Jayalalitha's charge that the DMK government was anti-poor, Karunanidhi said it was the previous AIADMK regime which was thoroughly anti-people. When she was chief minister, she had attended the funeral of a rich liquor baron in Andhra Pradesh, but found no time to go to Kovilpatti to mourn the death of AIADMK presidium chairman and veteran Dravidian leader E V A Vallimuthu, he pointed out.
