Naga ceasefire extended for one more year

The ceasefire in Nagaland has been extended for one more year, Home Minister Lal Kishinchand Advani informed the Lok Sabha today.

The Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland, he said, had mutually agreed to extend the ceasefire for one year from tomorrow to find a solution to the insurgency in the state.

The home minister's announcement came in the course of his reply to a five-hour debate on the situation in the North East.

The ceasefire was agreed upon by the two sides during the tenure of the United Front government to bring the insurgents to the negotiating table.

The ground rules of the dialogue would be followed during the ceasefire.
