Bonfires light Andhra as mercury dipsBonfires, the main remedy of the have-nots against cold, have become a common sight in Andhra Pradesh's Telangana and coastal districts, with the night temperatures there falling to well below normal. The weather office in Hyderabad said the wave was likely to continue in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar and Medak for the next 24 hours. While Medak, Nizamabad and Ramagundam recorded the minimum temperature of 10 degree celsius, the state capital registered 10.5 degree celsius. Meanwhile, cold wave conditions also prevailed in Bihar, Punjab, Kashmir, north central Maharashtra, Marathwada and parts of Orissa. Night temperatures were appreciably below normal in parts of Uttar Pradesh, north Gujarat region and north Andhra Pradesh, and below normal in parts of Assam, Konkan and Goa, Rayalaseema and north Tamil Nadu. They were appreciably above normal in parts of Haryana and west Rajasthan, and above normal in parts of Saurashtra and Kerala. They were normal over the rest of the country outside Arunachal Pradesh and east Madhya Pradesh from where the data were sparse. Rain or thundershowers occurred at a few places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. Mainly dry weather prevailed over the rest of the country.
