Sonia backing 'anti-Hindu' Christians in a bid to appease minority vote bank: VHPThe Vishwa Hindu Parishad has charged the Congress and its president Sonia Gandhi with backing the ''anti-Hindu'' Christians in a bid to appease the minority vote bank and urged President K R Narayanan to take immediate remedial measures to ensure that the Christians lived harmoniously with the majority community. In a memorandum to the President, VHP'S Gujarat unit vice-president D K Akruwala and other office-bearers alleged that the Congress had constantly ''betrayed'' the Hindus to appease minority vote bank. Copies of the memorandum had been sent to the prime minister, governor and chief minister of Gujarat and the Union home minister. According to the memorandum, more than 200 Christians had attacked a peaceful rally of Hindu Dharma Jagran Manch at Ahwa, the district headquarters of the tribal district of Dangs, on December 25. Charging the church and its leaders with attempts at proselytisation and ''forced'' conversion of tribals by luring them or creating terror, it said the VHP and the Manch were opposing such ''unconstitutional ways in a peaceful and non-violent manner.''
