Bombay group demands ban on Bombay Boys, Zakhm

An organisation in Bombay has said that Censor Board Chairperson Asha Parekh should resign immediately if the board does not ban the recently-released Bombay Boys and Zakhm.

Pradeep Bhavnani of the Mumbai Youth Association has also written to Union Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani, asking him to take steps to immediately ban both films.

Bombay Boys has crossed all limits in vulgarity, while Zakhm has projected Hindus as militants'... And both films should be immediately banned," he said.

Bhavnani claims he has spoken to Advani, Parekh and Bombay Police Commissioner Ronnie Mendonca and said Zakhm had already been banned in Mauritius. "How can it be allowed to continue here when it projects Hindus as militants?" he asked.

He said that if both the movies were not banned, there was no moral ground for Parekh to continue as the Censor Board chairperson. Bhavnani has earlier protested against the screening of Deepa Mehta's Fire.

The film is under review with the Censor Board and the screening has been called off in Bombay theatres after Shiv Sainiks objected to it and destroyed furniture and show windows in some theatres.

Mahesh Bhatt's Zakhm, starring Ajay Devgan, Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre and Ashutosh Rana, is currently running to full houses at Novelty, Cinemax and a few other theatres in Bombay.

Bombay Boys is worse than Fire, since swear words are strewn throughout the move.
