Paramilitary to prop up Delhi Police

E-Mail this report to a friend

Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Wednesday promised Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit assistance from the Centre to combat the growing crime in the national capital.

In a telephone conversation, Advani told Dikshit that the Centre has taken note of the law and order situation in Delhi and taken steps to reinforce the police with the paramilitary.

The chief minister was unable to meet the home minister personally as she was out of station. Home ministry sources said Advani could not find time to meet Dikshit on Tuesday.

Dikshit had requested for a meeting with Advani on Monday night and it was fixed for Wednesday. Now the meeting is expected to be held in January as Advani will be away in Bangalore in connection with the Bharatiya Janata Party national executive council meeting.
