BJP panel to study atrocities against womenThe ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has constituted a national committee under the chairmanship of party Mahila Morcha president Maya Singh to look into the incidences of atrocities on women in the country. The committee has been named the Saavdhaan Samiti. Maya Singh made the announcement at a press conference after inaugurating a two-day training camp for state BJP women activists. Maya Singh said the national committee, under her chairmanship, also comprised Bhawna Chhikalia, MP, Vijay Daksha, an advocate and Mohini Garg. The committee would approach the women who have suffered atrocities. It would collect evidence against the culprits for further action. She said that in Haryana too similar state-level panels comprising BJP women activists would be constituted soon. Maya Singh said the BJP Mahila Morcha would launch a national awareness campaign on the issue of the proposed bill providing capital punishment for rapists. Seminars would also be organised in the country to find how the people, particularly women, react to the bill. A comprehensive report of the national debate would then be submitted to the prime minister and home minister for further action. Singh said the BJP Mahila Morcha was involved in educating the women through seminars, training camps and conferences to emphasise the need of representation of women in state assemblies. The group would also train its members to handle the voting process during elections, she said. |
